#1 Optional updates for Windows 10 will be on hold during the coronavirus pandemic von z2ugame 26.03.2020 07:09

Microsoft announced today that the company will be pausing all optional Windows 10 updates starting this May.With more people working from home, it’s imperative that their Windows devices continue to be reliable, and so Microsoft is pausing optional Windows updates to make sure any future updates do not affect users.

Citing the COVID-19 pandemic, the software giant said starting in May it will pause the releases to prioritize security. "We have been evaluating the public health situation, and we understand this is impacting our customers," wrote Microsoft.

Microsoft said it's suspending C and D operating system updates. Those updates are typically released in the last two weeks of the month to improve the operating system. As for its security patches, Microsoft said it will continue to release those on a monthly basis to ensure business continuity and to keep customers protected. While the optional updates are being halted temporarily, Microsoft didn’t indicate when they might return. In all likelihood, we won’t see them again until the coronavirus outbreak is under control and life returns to relative normality, which could be a while.

These updates are optional, of course, so most people probably won’t miss them. It also means that Microsoft will have fewer opportunities to destroy your PC with its notoriously bad updates. One of its more recent attempts to improve Windows 10 managed to cause performance slowdown, boot failures, and a host of other problems for some users.
